Nicholas Pooran appointed as the limited overs captain of West Indies

Nicholas Pooran has replaced Kieron Pollard as the captain of West Indies’ One Day International and Twenty20 teams. Pollard retired from international cricket last week. Pooran has been Pollard’s deputy for a year.

Cricket West Indies on Tuesday confirmed the captaincy. Pooran’s appointments included the T20 World Cup in Australia in October and the Cricket World Cup in India in October 2023.

He has already led the team in Pollard’s absence, winning the home T20 series against Australia last year. His first assignment will be in the Netherlands for three ODIs later this month.

“I am following in the footsteps of many legends of the game who have created an amazing legacy for West Indies cricket,” Pooran said in a statement. “It is, indeed, an iconic role, an important place in West Indian society, because cricket is the force that brings all of us West Indies together. Being the captain has really been the highlight of my career so far.”
