Night curfew in Manipur in view of rising cases of Omicron

In view of the increasing cases of omicrons in the country, the Manipur government on Wednesday imposed night curfew from 9 pm to 4 am. The ban comes days before the New Year celebrations.

According to an order issued by the state home department, essential services and medical emergencies have been exempted from the night curfew.

The state has also banned concerts, thabal chongba (folk dance), festive feasts, large gatherings of people in enclosed areas or indoor halls.

“Wearing of face masks in public places, gatherings and crowded areas is an important COVID appropriate practice and should be strictly enforced and violators should be punished immediately under relevant rules,” the order read.

All district magistrates have been directed to enforce the restrictions by invoking the relevant provisions of the law.

“This order is in continuation of the order of even number dated 27.12.2021 and shall remain in force till 31.01.2022,” the order said.

Notably, according to the Union Health Minister, one case of Omicron has been reported in Manipur.

According to a COVID-19 bulletin released on Wednesday morning, India’s Omicron case tally stands at 781.
