Nikhat Zareen shone under the tutelage of Hyderabad coach

For a long time, he was known as one of the most scientific boxing coaches ever in Indian history. and when Nikhat Zareen, crowned world women’s boxing championSeeing him in 2015 to make the necessary adjustments in technique and skill, he couldn’t have had a better option.

For, the rest of the history is accepted. At the age of 75, Chiranjeevi, a former boxing coach of the Sports Authority of India, was on call every time Nikhat was in the city. Training sessions, some of them at Nizam’s College and LB Stadium Boxing Hall, apart from the Artillery Center (Golconda), were carefully planned. More importantly, it was not only about boxing but also about the art of finding one’s comfort zone.

Nikhat’s father acknowledges Chiranjeevi’s contribution, while the champion boxer turns out to be an avid student, taking up new facets in the art of boxing.

Not surprisingly, Chiranjeevi is a huge fan of Nikhat’s commitment, passion and guts to keep going.

“What I like about him is the typical boxer’s delight to show those traits of aggression that are an integral part of any boxer’s campaign at any level,” he said.

Chiranjeevi said, “By all means, winning a world championship in any sport is always special and even more so in boxing and for someone like Nikhat who has to face the voices discouraging him.”

And, when Nikhat was crowned Queen of the Ring in Istanbul (Turkey) on Sunday, it was yet another reminder of the formidable female force in Indian sport from the City of Pearls – the long list includes some of the most illustrious names in the sporting world. There are Sania Mirza, Mithali Raj, Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu to name a few.
