Udhagamandalam: In disaster management teams eucalyptus 22 places have been identified as severe as they have been frequently affected due to rain.
There are a total of 283 vulnerable places in the district. Based on the instructions of the government prior to the heavy rain warning, Principal Secretary and Nilgiris District Surveillance Officer Supriya Sahu held a district level meeting with all the officials in Ooty to discuss about the disaster management programme.
Supriya Sahu said that the teams have been directed to monitor these important places during the northeast monsoon period. “As of now, the rain situation in the district is manageable. We are prepared for any eventuality due to monsoon in the district. Twenty-three stationary medical teams and 13 mobile medical teams are ready in the district.”
He said that 456 rescue camps have been set up in case people migrate from low-lying areas due to floods. A response list like machinery is also kept ready in case of landslides. “In addition, 42 zonal teams comprising 3,025 officers from Revenue, Highways and PWD departments have been constituted as part of the disaster management programme,” Sahu said.
A close watch is being kept on all the 15 reservoirs of the district.
