NIRF 2023 Ranking: A new category ‘Agriculture & Allied Sectors’ introduced, Institutes can now register

For the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023, a new category named Agriculture and Allied Sectors has been added. It is combined with existing categories including colleges, universities, overall ranking, management, pharmacy, engineering, medical, law, architecture and dental colleges. Registration for the category is currently open.

NIRF assesses Indian institutions in teaching-learning and resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusiveness and perception. For NIRF, 30 per cent weightage out of the total 100 per cent is given to Teaching, Learning and Resources and Research and Professional Practice. While 20 per cent weightage has been given to graduation results, 10 per cent weightage has been given to outreach and inclusivity and perception.

NIRF ranks higher educational institutions in the country on the basis of objective criteria to promote competitive excellence in higher educational institutions.

It has now invited applications for India Ranking 2023, the eighth edition of this annual exercise. All the institutions that have participated in the previous India Ranking exercise have been pre-registered.

Meanwhile, the number of colleges participating in NIRF 2022 has increased. A total of 7254 higher educational institutions have participated this year as compared to 6272 last year. The number of unique applicants for the India Ranking has increased from 2,426 in 2016 to 4,030 in 2021, while the total number of applications for the ranking in various categories has increased from 3,565 in 2016 to 6,272 in 2021. This represents an increase of 1604 (66) in total. % increase) in unique institutions and 2707 (76% increase) in total applicants.

For the last three years, IIT Madras has been ranked as the top college in the overall categories. The second runner up for the overall best category is IISc Bangalore which has been at the second position for the last three years. The National Institutional Ranking Framework or NIRF was established in 2015, and the first set of rankings was released in 2016.
