Nissan: Nissan ends production of Datsun brand vehicles – Times of India

Tokyo: Japanese automaker Nissan The company on Monday said it is ending production of the Datsun brand of vehicles, less than a decade after reviving the famed budget car to woo cost-conscious customers in emerging markets.
“Nissan continues to focus on key models and segments that benefit the customers, dealer partners and business the most,” the company said in a statement.
“The production of the Datsun redi-GO will stop at the Chennai plant,” it said, adding that sales of the already manufactured models will continue.
The facility in India was the last unit to be operated for the brand, after production ceased in 2008. Indonesia And Russia,
The company said that after-sales service and parts will be available.
Nissan first discontinued the Datsun brand in 1981, but was revived in 2013 by the then CEO Carlos Ghosn,
Ghosn will be arrested in Japan on financial misconduct charges, before jumping off bail and fleeing to Lebanon where he remains an international fugitive.
Datsun’s second death came after reportedly disappointing sales, and Nissan trying to pull itself out of a year-long slump.
The Datsun first went on sale in 1931 and was sold in 190 countries.
According to Nissan, its revived variant had a much smaller footprint with sales of over 7,000 units last year.
