NIT Andhra Pradesh director CSP Rao suspended

National Institute of Technology (NIT) Andhra Pradesh The education ministry has suspended director CSP Rao. This comes after complaints of “irregularities” in the institution. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Visakhapatnam have also initiated inquiries in the case, a leading news daily reported.

They had allegedly appointed ineligible people to important posts like PRO, Assistant Professor, Liaison Officer, Junior Assistant and Superintendent. As per reports, he had allegedly appointed Ram Prasad as PRO, however, there is no such post in the NIT. Prasad was paid Rs 50,000 as monthly salary and served as a PRO from December 3, 2018 to November 1, 2019.

They also reportedly appointed superintendent C Annapurna, Kappa Gopalakrishna, junior assistant VV Suresh Babu and assistant professor Veeresh Kumar. Most of these people were appointed against the eligibility criteria and age limit.

Rao was earlier Professor of Mechanical Engineering at NIT Warangal. He was appointed as the Director of NIT AP on March 19, 2018 for a period of five years. During his stint as a professor at NIT Warangal, he allegedly took a bribe of Rs 1.50 lakh and a treadmill from a PhD scholar whom he was guiding.

He also allegedly took bribe from a catering contractor of the institute through his friend’s bank account. The CBI has alleged that Rao along with four others took money from SS Caterers. The four other accused are Vidyaniketan, Dhanalakshmi, Nirela Subramaniam and N Vishnu Murthy.

Central government joint secretary Soumya Gupta has also ordered Rao that he cannot leave the NIT AP campus at Tadepalligudem without taking permission from the competent authority during the period of suspension. Apart from this, his house in Kazipet, Telangana has been sealed by the CBI.
