Under suspicious circumstances, controversy erupted at Delhi’s Feroz Shah Kotla when Virat Kohli was dismissed by Matthew Kuhnman. Kohli tried to defend Kuhnmann’s arm delivery, which went past him and was given out by on-field umpire Nitin Memon. Despite Kohli reviewing the decision, the umpire’s original call was upheld as the ultra-edge indicated that the ball could kiss the bat. After the dismissal, criticism of Nitin Memon’s decision started pouring in on Twitter. The fans felt that the ball had clearly hit the bat and that Kohli was again at the receiving end of poor decision-making when he was set and looking good to score big.

After the tea break, former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir surprisingly supported on-field umpire Nitin Menon’s decision to declare Virat Kohli out. Gambhir said, “I think it was the first pad, the umpire gave the right decision for Virat Kohli.”

In the 50th over bowled by Matthew Kuhnmann, Kohli attempted a straight ball on the front foot, which hit his pads first. Umpire Michael Gough believed that the ball would have hit the stumps and gave Kohli out. However, Kohli reviewed the decision, and UltraEdge showed that the ball had hit both bat and pad. Third umpire Richard Illingworth ruled that the ball had hit the pads first and upheld the on-field decision, despite there being no clear evidence.
