This is the first time in the last three presidential elections that Nitish’s JD(U) will support a candidate of its own coalition. Twice in the past during presidential elections, Nitish Kumar had gone against the political alliance in which his JD(U) was a part.
For the first time in 2012, the JD(U) went against the BJP-led NDA, despite being in the NDA, to support Congress veteran Pranab Mukherjee.
Again in 2017, the JD(U) voted for the NDA candidate Ram Nath Kovind, despite being a member of the grand alliance (grand alliance) of the RJD and the Congress. Then, Nitish had argued that he supported the NDA candidate Kovind as he was the governor of Bihar before being declared a candidate for the post of President.
