JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy on Wednesday said his party will not forge an electoral alliance with any party for the 2023 Assembly elections in Karnataka and will announce the first list of candidates for 123-126 seats on November 1. The chief minister also expressed confidence about the JD(S) forming the government independently by winning at least 123 seats out of the total 224 assembly seats, where polling will be held by April next year.
The party will launch its ‘Pancharatna Rath Yatra’ under the leadership of Kumaraswamy from Mulbagal in Kolar district on November 1, to spread awareness about welfare programs for the state if voted to power.
In response to a question, Kumaraswamy told reporters, “There is no question of alliance with any party.
Asked what will the JD(S) do if it falls short of the majority, he said, “There will be independents… In my opinion, there is a good atmosphere for the JD(S), there are still six months for the elections, And we will try to win the confidence of the people to achieve the target of winning at least 123 seats.
The JD(S) will contest all the 224 assembly seats, he said, adding, “If any regional party or organization in the state wants to contest four to five seats after discussing with us, we will consider that an agreement is made with them.” to go or not.”
Kumaraswamy had in the past led a coalition government with both national parties, with the BJP for 20 months from February 2006 and with the Congress for 14 months after the 2018 assembly elections.
Stating that as a first step in the elections, the JD(S) has already identified 126 candidates, Kumaraswamy said, “On November 1, when I will start the Pancharatna Rath Yatra, I will field 123- candidates for I will announce the first list of – 126 seats. ,
Responding to a question, saying that the JD(S) is not knocking on anyone’s door, and that its leaders and workers are organizing the party, he asked, “The BJP and Congress are still wooing some of our leaders. Why are you trying, knocking on their doors?”
Besides this, the JD(S) began its two-day workshop here today, which aims to prepare the party machinery and train potential candidates ahead of the elections.
