“No Antiques Can Match Walking…”: Congress Takes Away PM Modi’s South Push, Says “Travel Effect”

The Congress today said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to four southern states is an “effect of the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodi Yatra” which has traversed through these states since it began in September. Currently in Maharashtra,

Congress communications in-charge Jairam Ramesh tweeted, referring to Rahul Gandhi’s 3,500-km ‘Unite India March’ from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, “But can’t do anything by walking with people and listening.”

He called PM Modi “Camera-Life“- a play on words”movement-live” (‘Habit Protester’) which was created by the PM ‘intelligent’, Hindi word for ‘intellectual’. “Undoubtedly big photo-ops will be there,” the tweet said.

PM Modi started his tour Today from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and will also visit Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, participate in several programs and launch development projects.

In Bengaluru, the PM unveiled a statue of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda, considered the city’s founder, and inaugurated Terminal 2 of the international airport. In Tamil Nadu, he spoke of Mahatma Gandhi’s love for handicrafts and Khadi while addressing the convocation ceremony of the Gandhigram Rural Institute.

Tamil Nadu is where Rahul Gandhi, along with other party leaders and workers, began his journey on 7 September – a shot at reviving the Congress’s fortunes and setting up an ideology contest for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The yatra has covered parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana apart from Kerala, and will be in Maharashtra for the next few days before entering Madhya Pradesh on November 20. The target is to reach Srinagar by mid-January.
