No harm in learning from experts of Delhi government: Mann clarifies on controversy over Punjab IAS officers meeting Kejriwal

Reacting to the political controversy after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal summoned IAS officers from Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday clarified that he had sent the officers for a reason.

Addressing a press conference on the issue in Jalandhar, Mann said people would get the good news on April 16 and know why they had sent officials to Delhi. He said if there is something “good” to learn elsewhere, he is ready to send his officers there, be it Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat or Tamil Nadu.

CM Mann further said that senior officials of the state government had gone to New Delhi for training a few days back on his orders.

Criticizing the opposition for creating a ruckus over the issue, Mann said he would send his officers as and when required to hone their administrative skills and expertise. He said that the reforms of the Delhi government in education, health and power sector are unmatched and there is no harm in taking training from them.

“They (Delhi government) are experts in education, electricity, health. Why don’t I send the officers?” Mann said.

The opposition had on Monday accused the state’s bureaucrats’ meeting with the Delhi chief minister of “Kejriwal-controlled Punjab”.

From Congress to BJP, leaders of opposition parties criticized Kejriwal for allegedly meeting top officials of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) along with state chief secretary and power secretary in the alleged absence of CM Mann.

Newly-elected Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring took to Twitter to criticize Kejriwal for “summoning” Punjab officials.

After Waring, his predecessor Navjot Singh Sidhu also sought clarification from the Chief Minister.

The Shiromani Akali Dal asked Mann to protect the interests of Punjab and ensure that it is not controlled remotely from Delhi.

The BJP also joined the chorus. Party’s national general secretary Tarun Chugh slammed Kejriwal for “turning Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann into rubber stamp chief minister”.
