No lockdown in Delhi yet; Kovid situation under control: CM Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal addressed the media for the first time after recovering from coronavirus on Sunday. The CM informed that he tested negative for Kovid-19 on Sunday. He said that it is likely that more than 22,000 Covid cases are expected today. However, he said there was no need to panic as the rate of hospitalization was lower than during the second wave of the pandemic when the number of cases was similar.

“We don’t want to impose a lockdown, if you wear a mask we won’t. There is no intention of lockdown as of now,” Kejriwal said during his Sunday address.

“During the second wave of COVID-19 in May last year, Delhi recorded more than 20,000 cases per day. However, this time, the daily deaths are comparatively much less as compared to the second Covid-19 wave”. He said that at that time more than 300 deaths were recorded daily in Delhi due to Kovid-19, but now the number of daily deaths has come down to single digit.

Chief Minister was diagnosed COVID-19 On January 4, a day after attending a political rally in post-poll Uttarakhand. On recovering from Kovid-19, Kejriwal said, “After two days of fever due to Covid and completing 7-8 days in home isolation, I am back at your service; doing fine now”.

Delhi has seen a boom in its daily covid-19 case Since last few days. Yesterday, the national capital recorded 20,181 new cases of coronavirus and seven deaths in a day. The single-day case count in the city crossed the 20,000 mark after May 2, 2021. The daily positivity rate in the city has gone up to 19.60% and the active cases have risen to 48,178. Overall, Delhi’s Covid-19 caseload has risen to 15,26,979, while the death toll has risen to 25,143.
