No more trains to Kanchi, says Railways; Passenger upset | Chennai News – Times of India

Chennai: From suburban commuters Kancheepuram who travel to industrial centers in Arakkonam, Avadi and Chengalpet Railways will face unreliable train services as the railways will not increase the frequency of services due to a bottleneck on the Arakkonam-Kanchipuram-Chengalpet line.
Although Kancheepuram may be a famous pilgrimage center, the railways has not yet taken steps to double the railway line connecting the temple town. Rail passenger unions have been demanding the railways to double the line and run more services over the years. After the opening of the auto hub by the Railways, the delay of trains has increased walajabad Where freight trains occupy loop lines which are useful for train crossings.
In response to the queries raised by the members of the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee, Southern Railway (DRUCC) stated that “20 EMU services are operated on the Arakkonam-Chengalpet section with Mail/Express and goods trains. Walajabad being a single line section having an auto hub, it is not possible to increase the frequency of services at present. “
This has stirred up regular commuters and passenger unions. Chennai-Kanchi Rail Passenger Association secretary J Ranganathan said punctuality is bad and we don’t have enough trains during peak hours. “The train which reaches Kancheepuram at 7.10 am, which many passengers rely on, is often stopped for the crossing at Palur. At a level crossing Guduvanchery Which remains busy during peak hours, trains are also delayed.” Now, many people travel to Chengalpet and take the southern line to reach the city as there are more services from Chengalpet after the opening of the third line.”
K Bhaskar, a former member of the DRUCC, said the Arakkonam-Chengalpet section via Kancheepuram is 36 km, but only one crossing station is available.
