“No One Above Law”: Telangana Minister Returns From Dubai After Raids In Mining Case

Telangana minister Gangula Kamalakar returned from Dubai hours after the Enforcement Directorate searched his properties in the illegal mining and money laundering case and said he had nothing to hide. “I have been in the (mining) business for 32 years and have always acted transparently, within the limits of the law,” he told reporters at the airport last night.

On his way to his constituency Karimnagar, he said, “No one is above the law, so I will cooperate. So I returned within 12 hours. I will clear everything and go back to Dubai.” He went to Dubai on a family trip.

In Karimnagar, the inspection by the central agency ED and an Income Tax team is likely to continue today, after the operation from 10 am to 8.30 pm tomorrow. A 12-member team, including three Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers, came to the minister’s house in 12 vehicles. They carried important documents in seven bags.

The ED raids also come less than a week after Telangana Rashtra Samithi – recently renamed Bharat Rashtra Samithi for a national footprint (pending Election Commission approval) – won an assembly by-election in Munugode.

KCR has also alleged that BJP is trying to bribe party MLAs to switch sides.

The BJP has denied the allegations and has moved the High Court, which, at the request of the BJP, has allowed the state police to probe the allegations leveled by KCR’s party.
