No response to Bharat Bandh in Anantapur, Kurnool

Heavy security arrangements were made at key central and state government installations by Government Railway Police, Nandyal, Kurnool and Anantapur Civil Police personnel to prevent any untoward incident during the Bharat Bandh on Monday, but the day remained peaceful. Not a single incident is being reported.

State Secretary of Communist Party of India K. Ramakrishna told media persons here on Monday that his party supported the candidates’ demand for scrapping the Agneepath scheme. He reiterated the party’s demand that the police immediately release all 31 candidates who were arrested from Nallapadu and lodged in Rajahmundry Central Jail.

Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) activists staged peaceful dharnas in Anantapur and Puttaparthi demanding withdrawal of notification for recruitment of Agniveers.

He criticized the BJP government for canceling the written examination of candidates who passed the physical test and termed the new scheme only to reduce the total admissions in the defense forces.

A large contingent of armed reserve police along with civil police were deployed at Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur railway stations, BSNL telephone exchanges, RTC bus stations and Kondareddy Buruzu since morning, but were reduced significantly by evening. The incident is recorded anywhere.

The student organizations demanded the immediate release of all 31 candidates from Anantapur, Nandyal, Prakasam and Kurnool districts, who were arrested on June 18 from Nallapadu near Guntur and sent to Rajahmundry Jail.
