An important meeting of Akal Takht was held in Bathinda on Friday. After the meeting, the Akal Takht chief made it clear that Amritpal would not be allowed to surrender to the Akal Takht. There will be no talks with the police for the surrender of Akal Takhtpal Amrit. Harpreet, the head of the famine coup, appealed to Amritpal to surrender to the police. It is atrocious that Sarbat Khalsa has been called by Amritpal on “Baisakhi” on 14th. However, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) had said on Friday that calling a meeting of the “Sarbat Khalsa” was the prerogative of the Akal coup only. Fugitive preacher Amritpal Singh has called a meeting of “Sarbat Khalsa” to discuss issues related to the Sikh community.
In two bizarre videos that surfaced on social media on Wednesday and Thursday, Amritpal Singh has asked the Jathedars (chiefs) of the Akal Takht, the apex religious body of the Sikhs, for the “Sarbat Khalsa”, the house of honour. Amritpal has also appealed to evacuate “Khalsa Waheer” (religious exodus) from Akal Takht at Jathair in Amritsar to Damdama Sahib in Bathinda and hold meetings there on Baisakhi day.
Reacting to this, SGPC general secretary Gurcharan Singh Grewal said, “It is Amritpal Singh’s personal wish. Calling or not calling the Sarbat Khalsa is the sole prerogative of the Akal Takht and not anyone else’s.
Grewal had said that since the Jathair leads the Sikh community, he takes every order with deep thought and takes the opinion of Sikh and intellectuals. “Jathair sees what should happen in view of the current situation, no doubt that several Sikhs close to Amritpal Singh have been arrested under the National Security Act, which is a matter of grave concern,” he said.
