Mohit’s lawyer Chaman Prakash Sharma said that his family started a search for him and informed the police when he did not reach home on November 27, 2018. He returned to the car and met Puneet. and found his accomplice. The accomplice fled from the spot,” the lawyer told the court.
Sharma said that Puneet had killed Mohit over a political rivalry. “Mohit’s father is a local politician, while Puneet is also from a political family,” he added. His accomplice has been identified as a juvenile and is facing trial in the Juvenile Justice Board.
Gautam Budh Nagar Additional District Judge Jyotsna Singh on Monday sentenced Puneet to life imprisonment under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Puneet was also sentenced to three years imprisonment under Section 25/27 of the Arms Act.
The Additional District Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him in the order. The court said that both the sentences will run concurrently.
