Noida Twin Towers: The rigging of supertech buildings with explosives postponed

The process of rigging Supertech’s twin towers in Noida with explosives that is slated to begin on Tuesday has been deferred. The rigging of Supertech’s twin towers with explosives was deferred due to the lack of certain NOCs mandated for their demolition.

The twin towers located in Sector 93A of Noida are scheduled to be demolished on August 21 at 2.30 pm and a review meeting has been called on August 6.

The Supreme Court’s deadline for demolition of an illegal structure nearly 100 meters high is August 28. The period from 21 to 28 August was kept as a buffer period.

According to officials aware of developments in the Noida Twin Towers, charging – filling explosives into the pillars of skeletal structures – the process was to begin on Tuesday, August 2, and would take about 15 days. to be completed safely.

“However, the process of charging could not start as per schedule. Some No Objection Certificates (NOCs) are still pending, after which the final preparations for the demolition process can begin,” an official said.

According to reports, demolition firm Edphis Engineering, which has been hired by developer Supertech Group, is yet to respond to queries from the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI). The demolition of Supertech’s twin towers requires the approval of CBRI to initiate the charging process.

“When some pending reports are submitted to CBRI and CBRI gives its approval, the process of charging will start,” a Noida Authority official told PTI.

The official said that the Noida authority will officially review the status of the project on August 6 after which the further course of action can be shared. According to reports, more than 3,500 kg of explosives will be filled inside 9,400 holes drilled in the columns and shears of the twin towers, about 100 meters high, to bring down the towers.

The Supreme Court last August ordered the demolition of Supertech’s Apex and Cyan towers, observing that the buildings had come in violation of building norms.
