The Pakistan Stadium turned into an examination venue where thousands of candidates sat in the ground to appear for the Islamabad Police Force’s recruitment test. The video goes viral.

When you think of a stadium filled with thousands of people, you imagine a big concert or sporting event. However, in Pakistan, a stadium was put to a different use. In a video doing the rounds on social media, we were shown a stadium full of 30,000 people who had gathered there for a solemn event like the Islamabad Police Force recruitment exam. The stadium turned into an examination venue where thousands of candidates sat on the ground to appear for the written test. This clip has come out amid the economic crisis in the country and rising unemployment.

Thousands of people could be seen sitting around the stadium carrying pens and notepads to take the test, which will eventually recruit only 1,167 people for the vacant posts. Not only the stand but the ground was also being used for the candidates to sit.

The clip was posted online by Al Jazeera on its Instagram handle with a caption explaining the situation.

The video has been viewed nearly a million times in less than 24 hours after being posted online. Several users expressed sympathy over the state of Pakistan’s economy in the comments section. One user wrote, ‘This situation is very sad for the people of Pakistan. One user said, “Good to know that police forces are the same around the world.”

Another user commented, “I’m sure some are just for looks, not as applicants.”

“The tragedy is that the exam will not even matter in the process of selection,” read another comment.

According to news agency ANI, the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) revealed that more than 31% of Pakistan’s youth are currently unemployed. Of this number, 51% are women, while 16% are men, and many of them hold professional degrees.

Earlier in the report that came out in March 2022, the fiscal imbalance was predicted to increase to 8.2 percent of the country’s GDP.
