‘Not Just Casting Vote’: Gul Panag Tells News18 She Wants To Join Politics Again Specific

Bollywood actress Gul Panag is once again keen to enter mainstream politics. In an exclusive interview with News18, he said that everyone should be a part of it.

Panag had contested the 2014 general election from Chandigarh on an Aam Aadmi Party ticket.

She told News18 that her family attracted more attention in 2014 and it was difficult for her then. But when asked if she is still interested in joining mainstream politics, Panag said, “Yes, I am.”

“I believe that our participation in politics should increase. It should not be limited to our casting our votes. What after that? Unfortunately the festival of democracy is reduced to voting. Public opinion, about public pressure. In what? Fourth Estate, what about the media? he said.

Asked if she sees her future with AAP or any other party, Panag said it is difficult for her to say anything now. “For a prosperous democracy, multi-party system is very important. I don’t think it is healthy for one or two parties to occupy the political scene,” she said.

Panag has been quite politically outspoken on social media and in public forums. He supported the protest of the farmers on the borders of Delhi.

When asked if he faced any trolling or attacks because of his political stand on the issues, he said, “Today trolling is very systematic. I haven’t dealt with it much, though my stance is always balanced. I don’t think the government ever works against the people.”

However, Panag agrees that trolling sometimes affects the entertainment industry in terms of box office collections. There are many instances when films have been boycotted for an actor’s statement or his stand on an issue.

He believes that the effect is also because there are only a few people who take a stand on an issue. The majority, she says, no.

“However, if you look at Laal Singh Chaddha, the box office collections have finally gone up. So how effective was the boycott? Audiences want entertainment,” said Panag.

Emphasizing on the need to take a stand, she said, “People look up to you as a role model. So, when you take a stand, it has to be balanced.”
