Patna: Nalanda Open University ,n o u), which is presently the only institute in the state providing distance education, has started the process of getting itself recognized National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) at the earliest. It will not be able to admit students to its various courses in the year 2023 if it is not recognized by NAAC earlier.
Vice Chancellor of NOU KC Sinha A meeting of all the coordinators and teachers was convened to discuss the issue and decide the necessary steps to streamline its academic activities. The VC said that all the essential requirements of accreditation such as updating the syllabus, regularizing its academic sessions and introduction of semester system and choice-based credit system (CBCS) will have to be implemented well before the university volunteers for accreditation. VC said.
It was decided in the meeting that with a view to regularize some of the delayed academic session, the admission of students in the new academic session (2022-23) would be started from July 5 through both offline and online mode. Right now the 2021 examinations of different courses are going on and the same will be completed in August. It was decided that the results of all 2021 examinations would be published latest by September. To bring the derailed session on the right track, the 2022 examinations will also start in October this year.
The answer sheets of all the examinations will be evaluated under a centralized evaluation system to expedite the timely publication of results. It was decided to increase the number of counseling classes in each course so that students do not face any difficulty in understanding the course content. The counseling classes will be conducted both online and offline for the benefit of distance learners.
Keeping in view the increasing demand of the students, the University will also take steps to introduce some new job oriented courses and revive some old courses. Teaching in subjects like English, Bhojpuri, Maithili and Statistics will be resumed soon after getting approval from the department UGCDistance Education Bureau. In addition, the self-learning material of various courses prepared many years ago will also be revised and updated, Sinha said.
