A defamation case has been registered in Maharashtra’s Beed district against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut for claiming that there was a threat to his life from Shrikant Shinde, son of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. An official gave this information on Friday.

The case was registered on the basis of a complaint lodged by Shiv Sena’s Beed district unit chief on Thursday, he said.

This is the second First Information Report (FIR) filed against Raut in connection with his allegation. One such case was registered against him at Thane city’s Kapoorbawdi police station on Wednesday night.

Based on the complaint lodged at the Beed city police station, an FIR was registered against the Rajya Sabha member under sections 153(a) (promoting enmity between different groups), 500 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). and 501 (both related to defamation), 504 (intentional insult) and others, the official said.

He said that the investigation of the matter is going on.

Raut had written a letter to the police on Tuesday alleging threat to his life from Kalyan MP Shrikant Shinde.

“Lok Sabha member Shrikant Shinde has given a contract to Raja Thakur, a criminal from Thane, to kill me. I have confirmed regarding the same. I am informing you as a responsible citizen,” Raut claimed in the letter.
