Number of beneficiaries increased for foreign scholarship of Jharkhand government

Jharkhand government has increased the number of beneficiaries of Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Pravasi Scholarship Scheme to 25. Officials gave this information on Saturday. Previously, the scholarship enabled 10 students to pursue higher studies at top universities in the United Kingdom. Now, 25 students from Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Minorities and Other Backward Classes (OBC) will be eligible to pursue higher education in the United Kingdom, a press release said.

The scheme was launched last year by the Hemant Soren government to provide an opportunity to the talented students of the state to pursue postgraduate studies in leading universities in the United Kingdom. The expanded version now allows the provision of fully funded scholarships to 25 students every year to pursue a one-year master’s or two-year M Phil program in 31 subjects, the release said.

The state government has also increased the allocated budget of scholarship to Rs 16 crore per annum, which can be increased if needed. Last year seven students were selected for the scholarship. He is currently pursuing his higher education at Loughborough University, University of Warwick and University of Sussex. Earlier, scholarships were given to students for pursuing higher studies in 22 subjects. Nine additional themes have been added in the expanded version, the release said.

Meanwhile, the UK government’s FCDO (Foreigners and Commonwealth and Development Office) to launch a jointly funded Chevening-Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Scholarship for five students belonging to Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes from Jharkhand State Government will partner with.
