Australia won its first T20 World Cup title, Beating New Zealand by eight wickets in the final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, After losing to England in the 2010 final at Bridgetown, Barbados, the Aussies were undeniable this time around as they put up a brilliant batting display to thrash New Zealand outright. Australia’s chasing stars were Mitchell Marsh (77 not out) and David Warner While Josh Hazlewood was the standout with the ball in hand.

Chasing a tough target of 173 runs, the Australian team reversed New Zealand’s score with seven balls to spare.

Australia got off to a good start by hitting Warner for two fours. However, Aaron Finch’s struggle at the top of the order continued as Trent Boult sent him packing for just 5.

Mitchell Marsh came out to bat when Finch’s wicket fell, and faced the first three balls with the help of a six and a four after a quick run to the ground. The Australian all-rounder didn’t look back after that and went on to present New Zealand’s bowling lineup.

If the marsh barrage was not enough, the New Zealand bowlers also had to contend with an in-form Warner, who also found the boundary at will.

Warner first scored his half-century, reaching the landmark by hitting a six from James Neesham.

Warner and Marsh added 92 runs in just 59 balls to give Australia complete control in the chase.

Boult struck back the dangerous Warner for 53 to give New Zealand the much-needed breakthrough but no one could stop Marsh.

The lean Australian all-rounder continued to trouble New Zealand’s bowlers, scoring a half-century as well. He was joined by Glenn Maxwell, who took a few deliveries before the start.

Marsh and Maxwell kept looking for boundaries as New Zealand found no way to keep the Australian batsmen calm.

In the end, Maxwell finished things off in third man with a reverse ramp to send the team into ecstasy.

Earlier, Martin Guptill and Daryl Mitchell gave a solid start to New Zealand. Mitchell, who was a hero for New Zealand in the semi-final against Pakistan, failed to replicate his performance and was dismissed for 11 by Josh Hazlewood.

Guptill and captain Kane Williamson carried the New Zealand innings but did so at the cost of the run-rate. Both made slow progress and the Australian bowlers kept things tight.
