Odisha Assembly Speaker SN Patro on Tuesday termed as unfair the behavior of senior Congress MLA Taraprasad Bahinipati, who raised a chair in front of the Speaker’s podium after his notice to discuss alleged irregularities in the mining sector was rejected. . Party’s chief whip Bahinipati also threw her headphones in the Well of the House protesting the Speaker’s decision.

Patro said that you are a senior member of the House and this is not proper behavior in the Vidhan Sabha. The Congress leader sought a discussion on the “mining irregularities” through an adjournment motion, which was rejected by the Speaker.

He alleged that the mine owners were looting Odisha and demanded action against them. The Congress member had raised the issue first during the Zero Hour and then in the post-lunch session. Later he did a walkout. Opposition BJP chief whip Mohan Manjhi claimed that he sees the hand of the Congress leader behind the Speaker rejecting the notice for discussion. He alleged that Congress leaders have joined hands with the government in the alleged scam.

“I will resign from politics if BJP leaders prove that Congress leaders or MLAs are involved in mining irregularities,” Bahinipati said. He alleged that thousands of crores of rupees are being looted and the mineral thieves have escaped. Responding to the allegations of the Congress and the BJP, the government’s chief whip Pramila Mallick said, “It is the habit of the opposition members to accuse mining irregularities. When they don’t have an issue, they raise it.”
