The finance department has also asked various departments to prepare a separate research and development (R&D) budget so that the government captures the quantity and quality of R&D expenditure across all departments.
During the vote on account, the Finance Minister had said that the total program expenditure outlay for the financial year 2022-23 would be around Rs 1,10,000 crore. This includes an outlay of Rs 1,00,000 crore for the government sector and Rs 10,000 crore for PSUs and other extra-budgetary resources.
The proposed program budget size for 2022-23 is 33% higher than that of 2021-22. Government sources said the amount may be increased to include some new schemes while presenting the full budget.
