Odisha train accident has claimed more than 280 lives and the Union and State government has announced relief for the victims of the tragedy. A woman attempted to cheat the system and claimed that her husband has died in the tragedy in order to claim compensation, amounting to ₹17 lakh.
Gitanjali Datta, a resident of Odisha’s Cuttack district claimed that her husband Bijay Datta has died in the Odisha train accident and also pretended to identify his body. Post verification, the administration found her claim to be false.
Husband demands action
The husband of the woman, Bijay Datta has demanded strict action against his wife for attempting to grab public money by faking his death.
Datta was eyeing a compensation of around ₹17 lakh out of which 10 lakh is announced by the Railway Ministry, ₹5 lakh by the state government, and ₹2 lakh by the Prime Minister’s office.
Coromandel Express resumes services
After the horrific Odisha train accident, the ill-fated Coromandel Express train resumed its services on Wednesday. “The Coromandel Express is ready to recommence its services from Wednesday,” Chief Public Relations Officer of Railways Aditya Kumar Chaudhary told ANI.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has started the investigation of the Odisha train accident. The preliminary probe indicated deliberate interference with the electronic interlocking system. The questions were raised on the signaling error, which prompted the loco pilot of Coromandel Express to divert from the main line to the loop line.
