Odisha’s Leader of Opposition attends monsoon session from hospital bed due to Covid-19 infection

Naveen Patnaik and MLAs above 65 years are also participating through online mode.

As the monsoon session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly began on Wednesday, Leader of Opposition Pradeep Naik, who is undergoing treatment for COVID-19 infection at AIIMS, attended the session through video conferencing. Naik, who was admitted to AIIMS for the last two months, tried to attend the session despite wearing an oxygen mask on his face.

Naik tweeted, “It is my duty to respect the responsibility people have entrusted to me. Though my health condition is not allowing me to physically attend the session, I am attending the session through virtual mode. I’ll get your attention.” he said.

He was in ICU with ventilator support at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. His condition was critical. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik held discussions with a team of doctors and directed them to provide all possible help to Naik.

Odisha Assembly Speaker Surya Natarayan Patra directed strict enforcement of COVID-19 norms in the premises of the Vidhan Sabha building. There should be RT-PCR negative report of MLAs and Vidhan Sabha staff attending the proceedings of the House. CM Naveen Patnaik is also joining the proceedings of the House through video conferencing from his residence Naveen Niwas.

Similarly, MLAs above 65 years of age are also participating through online medium.
