Olympian’s widow welcomes baby girl 15 months after her death

Alex and Elidi Pullin were trying for a baby when she died last year.

Elidi Pullin, the widow of Alex ‘Champy’ Pullin, has given birth to a daughter, 15 months after the Australian Olympic snowboarder died in a spearfishing accident. The baby has been named Minnie Alex Pullin, Elidi Pullin announced on Instagram.

Two-time world champion snowboarder Alex Pullin was 32 when he died in a fishing accident off Australia’s Gold Coast in July 2020.

The couple’s child was conceived through IVF or in vitro fertilization. “We did that sperm retrieval procedure, of course, because the chump passed away, to get his sperm. The doctor selected the best viable sperm out of millions and put it directly into the egg,” said Elidi Pullin. was quoted by CNN.

The baby girl was born on October 25, Allidi revealed in her Instagram post shared on Thursday.

Elidi Pullin announced her pregnancy in June, saying she and her late husband had been “dreaming” for years about having a baby. The couple were trying for a child when the Olympian died in a tragic accident.

“When my love accident happened, we all hoped that I would get pregnant that month,” Elidi Pullin revealed in her pregnancy announcement on Instagram. “We were trying for a baby. IVF was on our cards but it wasn’t something I ever imagined I’d tackle on my own,” she described the experience as bittersweet.

Her pregnancy was well documented on Instagram. In a post, Allidi wrote: “I will carry on with the torch of my future, and soon a little piece of Champi will be back in my arms again.”

Before his death, Alex ‘Champy’ Pullin is believed to have been spearheading an artificial reef alone. He was found unconscious on the ocean floor without his oxygen mask by another diver. Lifeguards attempted to revive him on the beach but were unsuccessful in their efforts.
