Omicron shows highest single day jump of 28.17%, records nearly 8,000 cases

Amid growing concerns about the highly transmissible Omron variant, the Union Health Ministry’s updated data on Sunday showed that India has reported 7,743 cases of the Omicron variant. This is the highest single-day jump so far in the country after 1,702 new cases of Omicron type were reported in the last 24 hours, an increase of 28.17% from yesterday.

Meanwhile, the country has recorded 2,71,202 new coronavirus infections, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases to 3,71, including 7,743 cases in the Omicron version, according to the data updated by the Union Health Ministry on Sunday. has become ,22,164.

Additionally, experts have noted that it is not possible to sequence the genome of each sample, but emphasize that this wave is being driven largely by Omicron.

Active cases have risen to 15,50,377, the highest in 225 days, while the death toll has risen to 4,86,066 with 314 fresh deaths, data updated at 8 am.

The ministry said that active cases comprise 4.18 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has come down to 94.51 per cent. The active Covid-19 caseload has registered an increase of 1,32,557 cases in a 24-hour period.

India’s COVID-19 tally had crossed 20 lakh on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It had crossed 60 lakh on 28 September, 70 lakh on 11 October. , 80 lakh on 29 October, 90 lakh on 20 November and crossed the one crore mark on 19 December. India crossed the grim milestone of 20 million on 4 May and 30 million on 23 June.
