Happy Birthday Priyadarshan: Padma Shri awardee Priyadarshan, who has won three National Awards, is celebrating his 66th birthday on January 30.

Be it epic war films like Marakkar or light-hearted comedies including Bhool Bhulaiyaa, Garam Masala, and more, the filmmaker is known for his versatility. With three National Awards in his kitty, the director celebrates his 66th birthday on January 30.

ruckus 2

Hungama 2 marked the return of Priyadarshan as director after a period of eight years. Starring Paresh Rawal, Shilpa Shetty, Pranitha Subhash and Meezaan Jaffrey, the romantic-comedy is a sequel to the director’s own 2003 flick, Hungama. The plot revolves around the life of Akash, who begins treating troubled waters after his ex returns with a child. He enlists Anjali’s help to find out the truth about the baby, but trouble ensues when her husband suspects they are having an affair.

Marakar: Lion of the Arabian Sea

With an ensemble cast including Mohanlal, Sunil Shetty, Manju Warrier and Keerthy Suresh, Priyadarshan has helmed the project as well as writing the screenplay. The plot of the epic period war film chronicles the life of Kunjali Marakar IV, a legendary naval chief who wages war against an oppressive Portuguese regime and their allies. The success of the film was such that the filmmaker received a National Award for it.

forbidden love

Priyadarshan helmed and wrote the first segment, Anamika, of the ZEE5 anthology web show Forbidden Love. His segment starred Aditya Seal, Harsh Chhaya and Pooja Kumar in lead roles. The main theme of the anthology deals with the complexities of the emotion of love which transcends the boundaries of social norms.

Navrasa

Produced by Mani Ratnam, Navarasa is a Tamil anthology web show that revolves around nine core emotions from the Indian beauty theory. In which Priyadarshan directed and explored the humor (laughter) segment. His part starred Yogi Babu, Remya Nambisan and Nedumudi Venu in the lead roles.

olavam thiravam

Directed by Priyadarshan, Olavum Theeravam is a segment of the upcoming untitled Netflix anthology based on short stories by author MT Vasudevan Nair. Starring Mohanlal in the lead role, the segment is speculated to be in black and white, shot in Thodupuzha. Reportedly, Priyadarshan has completed the filming process of his segment.
