On February 4, students wearing hijab were allegedly denied admission to a government college in Kundapur area of ​​Udupi, Karnataka, amid a controversy over wearing headscarves in classes.

State Education Minister BC Nagesh told reporters, “He was not wearing a hijab earlier and this ‘problem’ started 20 days back.”

In a similar incident in the state, students of Chikkamagaluru College wore saffron shawls to register their protest against girls wearing hijab on the campus. Many students also staged a sit-in on Tuesday picket on top of that. After this, the police controlled the situation by entering the college premises.

Seeing the development of the state, Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly and Congress leader Siddaramaiah on Friday alleged that the aim is to deprive Muslim girls of education.

“It is a scheme to deprive girl students of education. Its aim is to deprive girl child of education,” Siddaramaiah told reporters in Bengaluru on Friday.
