Onam 2022: Onam is a ten-day long festival that is celebrated every year to mark the beginning of the harvest season as well as the homecoming of King Mahabali, as well as the appearance of the Vamana avatar of Lord Vishnu. This festival is mostly celebrated by the people of Kerala. The day is marked by organizing a grand feast. This year Onam Thiruvonam will be celebrated on Thursday, 8 September. There are some things you should never miss when you are in Kerala. Food and festivals make it an experience to remember God’s own country. While Kerala feasts on these delicacies, let us introduce you to the most popular Onam dishes

pal payasami

  1. Soak the rice for 30 minutes.
  2. Then cook it in milk till its texture becomes soft.
  3. Add cardamom powder with sugar and keep stirring till the sugar dissolves.
  4. Now fry cashews in a pan by putting them in hot ghee. After the cashews turn golden, add raisins and fry for a minute.
  5. Add rice mixture to it and the dish will be ready.

rasam

  1. Soak tamarind and take out its pulp.
  2. Chop the tomato and grate the garlic.
  3. Roast the ingredients and grind them to make powder.
  4. Boil tomatoes with lentils.
  5. After heating the oil, add mustard seeds to it.
  6. Then add curry leaves, green coriander and ground garlic to it.
  7. Mix dal and water to get the required rasam consistency.
  8. Mix the tamarind powder well and add rasam powder to it.
  9. Finally boil it on low flame for five minutes.

Kalan Kerala Curry

  1. Cook yam, banana and turmeric powder in buttermilk till it becomes soft.
  2. Add salt and grated coconut paste to it for some time.
  3. After heating the coconut oil, add mustard seeds and curry leaves and stir it for a few minutes.
  4. Lastly, add buttermilk mixture, black pepper and fenugreek seeds and mix well.

Kadala Curry Recipe

  1. Put oil in a pan and heat it.
  2. Add grated coconut, red chili, coriander seeds, curry leaves and small onions and fry till golden-brown.
  3. Grind the roasted ingredients finely.
  4. After the mustard is roasted, add chopped onions and spices like coriander powder, chili powder, garam masala and ground ingredients. Cook them well.
  5. Finally, add boiled gram water to it and let it cook.

  1. Take a heavy pan and heat oil in it.
  2. After heating the oil, add mustard seeds. When it starts crackling, add cumin and urad dal to it. When it turns golden-brown, add cashews and fry till the cashews turn golden.
  3. Add spices according to your taste, coconut milk, grated coconut, lemon juice, green coriander, green chillies and curry leaves and stir on high flame for 2 minutes.
  4. Add rice and then stir on low flame for five minutes.
