One child killed, another injured in mine blast in Afghanistan

Such incidents have become routine in Afghanistan due to the remnants of the war.

Kabul:

Khama Press reported on Monday that a child was killed and another injured when an improvised explosive device left over from a previous conflict detonated in Diak district of Afghanistan’s eastern Ghazni province.

The explosive device was discovered on Sunday by two children, aged 9 and 12, who attempted to take it home.

However, a regional official said that the explosive device detonated suddenly, killing one child instantly and seriously injuring another.

Such incidents have become routine in Afghanistan due to the remnants of the war.

Earlier, two sisters were killed in a similar incident in Nangarhar region of Afghanistan.

Three children of the same family were killed in a second incident on May 9 in the southern province of Kandahar, Khama Press reported.

The incident took place in the Haji Aziz neighborhood of Kandahar city when children discovered a deadly mine that had been left behind from previous battles.

The mine exploded when the siblings were playing with it, killing all three.

Unexploded bombs from previous battles have been found all over the country in recent years, killing and injuring men, women and even children.

Australia, Denmark, Germany, Japan, Sweden, the United States, the United Kingdom, and international organizations including the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) have contributed. According to Khama Press, since last November, mining is getting support in the country.
