Virudhunagar: One person died and two others sustained serious burns due to fire in a firecracker unit. amathur In Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday night. The accident happened at Bommi Fireworks ammankoilpatti Amathur police said that around 7.30 pm.
The deceased has been identified as 52-year-old D Arumugam, a resident of O Sankaralingapuram village. His body was taken to Virudhunagar Medical College Hospital for postmortem.
The injured – 38-year-old Gubendran from Ammankoilpatti and 33-year-old K Devendran of Sivakasi were taken to the government hospital in Sivakasi. Gubendran with 100% burns was later referred to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.
District fire officer K Ganesan, who visited the spot, told TOI, “Preliminary investigation suggests that at the time of the accident the workers were burning leftover waste like wicks and chemicals, about 50 meters away from the factory.” A fire brigade from Virudhunagar fire station reached the spot 20 minutes after the accident and doused the fire.
