One more arrested in APPSC question paper leak case; New exam to be held – Times of India

Guwahati: One more person has been arrested in connection with the accused Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission ,APPSC) question papers leaked, a senior police officer said on Wednesday.
This has taken the total number of arrests for the alleged leak of a question paper to Assistant Engineer (Civil) Main Examination is conducted by APPSC in the six of August.
Arunachal Pradesh Police arrested the sixth accused in Itanagar in the early hours of Tuesday.
The man, identified as 44-year-old Dilip Saha, a resident of Dum Dum, Kolkata, was arrested on the basis of information provided by Taket Jerang, Deputy Secretary and Deputy Controller of Examinations, APPSC.
“Jerang admitted that he had leaked the question paper before printing with the connivance of Saha, who took the paper to the press,” Capital Region SP Jimmy Chiram told media persons in Itanagar.
Jerang was arrested on 16 September.
Besides Jerang, four others were arrested earlier, including a teacher of a coaching institute, a candidate, his father and a middleman. The main examination was held on 26 and 27 August to fill 33 posts of Assistant Engineers. A total of 415 candidates appeared in the examination.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the candidate’s father had approached the middleman to find a link to procure the question paper of the main examination for his son in 2021. The SP said that the middleman had bribed the Deputy Controller of Examinations and illegally procured question papers before the examination and gave them to the candidate.
During scrutiny it was found that the sealed question paper was copied by the Deputy Controller of Examinations and sent to the candidate through middlemen.
Allegedly the candidate had consulted the teacher for answers to the question paper received. The teacher had allegedly disclosed the questions to another student, who on August 29, two days after the exam, lodged a written complaint with the police about the alleged question paper leak.
On receipt of the complaint, a preliminary inquiry was conducted and the report was submitted to the SP office on September 10. Later a case was registered.
During investigation it was found that Rs 43 lakh in cash was paid in 2021 by the candidate’s father to the middleman for the purchase of question paper of main examination. The middleman had given Rs 15 lakh to the Deputy Controller of Examinations and kept the rest with himself. The SP said that both had invested money in the property.
Chiram said a special investigation team has been constituted and the police have seized two vehicles, challans and cash memos for the purchase of hardware and other material related to the case.
Meanwhile, APPSC on Wednesday announced that the date of arrest of Jerang has been suspended from September 16. The Result of Assistant Engineer (Civil) Main Recruitment Exam has been cancelled. “Fresh dates for re-examination will be announced later,” a press statement issued by APPSC said.
The written examination for the posts of Women Medical Officer, Veterinary Officer, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Post Graduate Teacher and Dairy Development Officers has also been postponed till further orders.
“APPSC is conducting internal audit of its own office procedures to identify weak links so that such discrepancies do not recur,” the official said. by the court.
