South Indian playback singer Vani Jayaram has passed away at the age of 78. He died at his Chennai residence a few days after being awarded the Padma Bhushan.
Jayaram had completed 50 years as a playback singer in 2021. He made his Hindi film debut with Bhavya Miya’s Malhar composition, ‘Bole Re Paapi Hara’. doll (1971).
On being awarded the Padma Bhushan, she had said: “I feel really honored and very grateful to the government for thinking of me for this honour. For the last 52 years my fans have been listening to my songs and encouraging me and I thank them for their continued support. She has performed songs in several languages across film industries, and has performed extensively in the country and around the world.
