After the Aam Aadmi Party’s resounding victory in Punjab, its Karnataka state convener Prithvi Reddy’s mobile phone is ringing. On an average, he is getting 30 calls an hour and an overwhelmed Reddy has not been able to answer all of them as dozens of candidates are knocking on his door. According to him, some are just congratulatory calls, but there are dozens who want to join AAP and some also want to contest elections.
Speaking to News18, Reddy said, “The punjab election result The core of Congress has been shaken in Karnataka. Many Congress leaders have called me and expressed their desire to contest elections. Aam Aadmi Party Tickets for the upcoming BBMP and Assembly elections. Many of them are second-ranked leaders with clean records. Surprisingly, some BJP leaders from Hyderabad-Karnataka region (now renamed as Kalyan Karnataka region) also met me on Friday evening for an assembly ticket.
Reddy knows that winners have many friends and he is careful. He says that no one is untouchable in politics. “For us, Congress or BJP or JDS leaders and workers are not untouchables. There are many honest men and women who can win. We will definitely consider them, if they are really serious. We will not take communal and corrupt people. That is it,” he said.
AAP has been active in Karnataka since 2013 and Reddy is one of its founding members. He is also a member of AAP’s National Executive and National Spokesperson. its founder Arvind Kejriwal Is a regular visitor to the southern state.

AAP is making serious efforts to open your account in BBMP election. “The BJP government in Karnataka is scared that the people of Bengal will vote against them. So they are not ready to hold BBMP elections. They are using the Supreme Court as an excuse. They can easily get the stay vacated. In fact, the Supreme Court wants elections to be held.”
AAP wants to contest elections in all the wards of Bengaluru Municipal Corporation. “The global city is ready for a big change. We will provide a platform to citizen-led and citizen-centred governance. BJP and Congress have converted BBMP into a big mafia with the help of corrupt bureaucrats. If we fight well, both will be defeated,” Reddy hopes.
AAP had contested the 2018 assembly elections in Karnataka. He had lost his bail on the 28 seats he had contested. In the recently held civic elections, it has opened its account by winning only one ward in the entire state.
“We have suffered humiliating defeats in the past because we do not compromise on our principles. People have now realized that we can deliver. Winning a full state like Punjab is a big deal. We are no longer just a city-centric party. Punjab is an agricultural state. Everyone has voted for us. Poor to rich, uneducated to highly educated, village to city people, Sikh to Hindu. If it can happen in Punjab then it can happen in Karnataka also. The Punjab government was the most corrupt. We’ll change it. The Karnataka government is also the most corrupt. We’ll put an end to it. There may not be tomorrow. Certainly in the near future,” argues Reddy.
AAP has decided not to give tickets to those running educational institutions and hospitals for profit. It has also taken a stand against fielding real estate people and contractors. “People of Karnataka blame these four categories of people for corruption. We cannot entertain the same people,” he said.
Can you strike up a chord with Kannada people with a Hindi name? According to Reddy, AAP Karnataka is a purely Kannada and pro-Kannada party.
“We are a Kannada party. Many pro-Kannada organizations are with us. Our first priority is the predominance of Kannada and Kannada people in Karnataka. We firmly believe that India is a union of states and the government of New Delhi must stop imposing uniformity on all. This is against the foundation of our nation and can have disastrous consequences. You will maintain the diversity of India. Karnataka government will be formed from Karnataka. Arvind Kejriwal will not rule this out,” Reddy explains.
Can you cross the barriers of caste and class to become a force to be reckoned with? Some political observers think this is easier said than done. The ruling BJP dismissed the AAP as an upstart with no future in Karnataka. The main opposition Congress claims that no one from their stables will join a “letter head” party like AAP in Karnataka.
But, AAP wants to stay behind and fight in the electoral fray of Karnataka.
