Chandy’s health is not doing well since 2019. He was taken to Germany a few months ago after a throat-related ailment progressed.

Former Kerala Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Oommen Chandy has been admitted to a private hospital here and will be shifted to Bengaluru for further treatment, AICC general secretary in-charge of the organization KC Venugopal said on Saturday.

After meeting Chandy at a nearby hospital in Neyyattinkara, Venugopal said doctors have informed that the former chief minister is free from pneumonia.

Venugopal said Chandy would be shifted to a hospital in Bengaluru as decided by the Congress party.

He said, ‘He (Chandi) is a little tired. Doctors say that he is now free from pneumonia. I met him under the direction of the party president. He will be shifted to Bengaluru and AICC will make necessary arrangements for travel and treatment, Venugopal told reporters.

Meanwhile, Chandy Oommen, son of the former chief minister, also confirmed that the pneumonia has subsided and the Congress leader will be shifted to Bengaluru.

Oommen also alleged that false propaganda was being spread against his family regarding his father’s health.

“Even when he was undergoing treatment for pneumonia, false campaigns were being run against the family. We have no problem with any kind of treatment. Spreading fake news is not right. I have all the medical records,” Oommen told the media.

He said the Congress party leadership was fully aware of all the matters and took the initiative to take Chandy to Germany for better treatment.

Earlier, concern was raised from various quarters regarding his deteriorating health.

His relatives had alleged that the veteran Congress leader was being denied proper medical care by his close family members.

As reports of his health condition were doing the rounds on social media, Chandy posted a video on his son’s Facebook page, claiming that he was being properly taken care of by the family and the party.

Chandy’s 42 close relatives, including his younger brother, had sent a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking his immediate intervention to provide better treatment for their predecessor.

Chandy’s health is not doing well since 2019. He was taken to Germany a few months ago after a throat-related ailment progressed.

Chandy, who has represented the Puthupalli constituency in the state assembly since 1970, was the Chief Minister of Kerala twice.
