Opposition marches till Vijay Chowk

The leaders raised slogans and raised placards and demanded that if the suspension of 12 MPs cannot be revoked, they should also be suspended.

Opposition party MPs led a protest march in Parliament from the Gandhi statue to Vijay Chowk, which is about a kilometer away.

Opposition members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha gathered along with former Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut, DMK’s Tiruchi Siva, TMC’s Saugata Roy, RJD leader Manoj K Jha and CPI(M) leader Elmaram Karim. Gandhi statue, where 12 suspended MPs have been sitting on dharna for the last 14 days.

Earlier, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned at 12 noon following uproar by the opposition parties. The Zero Hour, where MPs can raise issues of national importance, ran amid an uproar. Despite the consensus that all opposition leaders would disrupt the proceedings, at least two TMC members spoke out.

During the protest, opposition leaders, at least 14 of them, sat in the Well of the House. Leader of the Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge wanted to speak but was not allowed. A war of words ensued between AAP MP Sanjay Singh and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, following which Chairman Venkaiah Naidu directed the marshal to send Mr Singh out. Mr Singh did not agree and this forced an adjournment till 2 pm
