Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, OPS, as he is known in political circles, on Monday “dissolved” the “fake General Council” of the AIADMK that expelled him and his supporters from the party in July last year. Had given.

Panneerselvam took strong objection to a group led by another former chief minister K Palaniswami to amend the party’s bylaws to change the AIADMK hierarchy, saying that contrary to the rules laid down by founder MG Ramachandran that the party’s general secretary should be Chosen by the primary members, the coordinators, who were duly elected, and their supporters were expelled from the party.

Panneerselvam, while accepting the recommendation of his party’s meeting in Tiruchirappalli on 24 April, said that the “fake general council” has been dissolved from today. He said in a statement here that the new council would be constituted after the process of issuing identity cards to genuine members is completed.

At the same time, he appealed to the members of his party not to have any contact with the members of the dissolved General Council.

The July 11 general council appointed Palaniswami as the interim general secretary of the AIADMK and the latter court dismissed Panneerselvam’s appeal against his removal, paving the way for the former to be elected as the party’s general secretary. .
