Orange alert in Odisha after heavy rain

Amid heavy rains, the Meteorological Department issued an orange alert in Odisha on Saturday. Heavy rains in Bhubaneswar, Puri and other parts of Odisha led to waterlogging and traffic jam in low-lying areas.

Puri recorded 99.9 mm of rain between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. Of this, 87 mm was during the three-hour period till 11.30 am, according to a bulletin. Bhubaneswar Roads were flooded as the capital received 36.6 mm of rain till evening. Traffic jam was observed in many areas of the city.

Western Odisha also recorded heavy rains, with Subarnaput recording 99.99 mm, followed by Chandbali at 53.6. Khurda received 40 mm of rain while Cuttack received 27 mm of rain.

Heavy rains were also recorded in Nayagarh, Baripada, Dhenaknal, Kendrapara and Jagatsinghpur.

Several passengers were trapped in a bus half submerged in flood waters in Khurda’s Jatni area. All the passengers got down in the water and got off the bus safely.

Forecast is – Intense rain of 20-30 mm per hour at intervals over the next few days. According to PTI, which quoted the Meteorological Department as saying, monsoon The trough was passing through Balasore.

Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Boudh, Bolangir, Ganjam, Puri and Raigad districts are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in some areas on Sunday.

Extremely heavy rain may occur at isolated places over Puri, Ganjam and Jagatsinghpur districts on Monday and Bargarh, Subarnapur, Bolangir and Boudh on Tuesday.

The Meteorological Department said that there could be landslides or landslides in sensitive hilly areas, causing damage to roads and houses.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture off the coast from Tuesday to Thursday as wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph and 65 kmph very likely over West Bengal Bay.
