The minister highlighted that more than 1 crore vehicles in India were ready for scrapping. He said that to aid the government’s vision of creating an efficient vehicle scrapping mechanism, which is essential for the growth of the automotive industry, OEMs should also invest in the scrapping industry, which is on the cusp of positive growth in the times to come.
Gadkari made this statement during the launch of the EQS 580 in India, which is now the longest-range electric vehicle in the country with a claimed range of 857 km (ARAI-certified).

In March this year, it was announced that the Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF) would digitally verify the records of vehicles produced for scrapping, with no pending dues and no record of blacklisting by regional transport authorities, As per the draft notification. Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) for vehicle scrapping.
MoRTH has issued a draft notification relating to registration and functions of vehicle scraping facility, under which necessary checks are to be done from the ministry’s ‘Vahan’ database before submission of application by the vehicle owner, the statement said.
“These checks show no record of hire-purchase, lease or hypothecation agreement of the vehicle, no criminal record against the vehicle in the National Crime Records Bureau records, no dues on the vehicle, and no record of blacklisting of the vehicle by regional Transport officials,” the draft said.
