Over 100 booked for attacking teenager who supported Nupur Sharma Impact of India Today

Bhiwandi Police has registered a case against over 100 people for assaulting a teenager who supported Nupur Sharma.

A day after a 19-year-old girl student was assaulted by a mob for supporting Nupur Sharma on her statements against Prophet Muhammad through social media, the Bhiwandi police have registered a case against around 100 to 125 people.

Engineering student Saad Ansari was attacked by a mob of several people from the Muslim community.

Ansari was later detained by the police on charges of “hurting religious sentiments”. This came after massive protests across the country against Nupur Sharma for her controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad.

18 accused have been identified. A case has been registered against them for rioting and making threats.

The Bhiwandi police station has booked the rioters under sections 141 (unlawful assembly), 143 (punishment for unlawful assembly, 147 (punishment for rioting), 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation). An FIR has been registered under 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention).
