Over 150 dogs were killed in Nalgonda district

In a shocking incident, over 150 dogs were allegedly killed in Mannamide village of Shaligoraram mandal in Nalgonda district. The incident took place on February 4 and it was said that the two/three week old puppies were killed by giving a lethal injection.

“I came to know about the killing of these dogs from friends. On Sunday I visited the place where the dogs were buried. It was pathetic and the official response was poor,” said Dr. Shashikala Kopanati, who visited the scene Hindu, The doctor lives in Bowenpally, Secunderabad. He lodged a complaint with the Shaligoraram police on Sunday night.

“This is my 5th visit to Nalgonda as an animal welfare worker in the last few months regarding community dog culling. Contact dog killers are being hired for ₹150 per dog in both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. They usually use an injectable poison such as propofol, which is a human anesthetic agent. I visited last night and lodged a complaint. The SI promised to inquire in the morning,” Dr. Sasikala said in an e-mail complaint lodged with higher authorities, a copy of which was shared.

This is the second such incident of mass killing of dogs. Last week, a similar complaint was lodged in Jagtial regarding the killing of around 100 dogs.
