Pak PM Imran Khan says US will have to recognize Taliban government sooner or later

Amid Pakistan’s relentless pitch for the legitimacy of the Taliban government, Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that the United States will have to recognize the organization-led government in Afghanistan sooner or later.

In an interview with TRT World, the Prime Minister said that if Pakistan unilaterally recognizes the Taliban, there will be no impact on the country, Geo TV reported.

“Pakistan is in talks with neighboring countries on this matter and a decision will be taken after consultation,” he said.

Commenting on the capture of Kabul by the Taliban, the prime minister said, “We were horrified by the bloodshed during the Kabul takeover and the peaceful transition to power was unexpected.”

He again urged the international community to provide aid to the Afghan government, which he said is mostly dependent on foreign aid.

“If the international community does not come forward to help the Afghan people, there will be a humanitarian crisis,” he said.

Pakistan has been accused of supporting the Taliban openly and indirectly.
