Pakistan Home Minister warns of Governor’s rule in Punjab amid tussle over CM post – Times of India

Pervez Elahi was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Punjab by Pakistan President Alvi on Wednesday morning.

Islamabad: Interior (Home) Minister of Pakistan Rana Sanaullah Punjab was on Wednesday threatened with imposition of governor’s rule if his entry into the country’s most populous province was restricted, adding to political uncertainty in a country facing severe economic crisis.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision to hand over control of Punjab to Chaudhry Parvez Elahi, a candidate backed by former PM Imran Khan, some PTI leaders had suggested barring Sanaullah from entering the country’s most populous province.
The apex court’s decision has increased the pressure on the federal government of the PML-N-led coalition parties, which removed Khan as prime minister in April.
Addressing a press conference, the Home Minister said banning entry into the province would be one of the reasons for the governor’s rule to be activated. “The summary for imposition of Governor’s rule is being prepared and I personally have started work on it,” he said.
Presser followed the PML-Q’s swearing in of Elahi as CM. President Arif Alvi administered the oath of office to Elahi in Islamabad following a refusal from the Governor of Punjab (from PML-N).
