Pakistan will have to wait to welcome India in Asia Cup 2023: Jay Shah

Amid reports of the next Asia Cup to be held in Pakistan gaining momentum, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah on October 18 said that the tournament will be held at a neutral venue.

The decision on the issue was taken during the 91st Annual General Meeting in Mumbai. India last visited Pakistan in 2006.

“The neutral venue for the Asia Cup is not unprecedented and we have decided not to travel to Pakistan,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said.

He further said, “It is the government that decides on the permission of our team to go to Pakistan, so we will not comment on that, but for the 2023 Asia Cup, it has been decided that the tournament will be held at a neutral venue.” Will go.”

According to the previously released FTP, Pakistan is scheduled to host two major ICC events in the next three years – the Asia Cup (which will be a 50-over format before the 2023 World Cup) and the Champions Trophy in 2025.

This is the first time that the country has been rewarded with the hosting rights of two major ICC events. However, the BCCI’s decision for a neutral venue cannot be viewed with a greeting and it is highly anticipated that the reactions of the PCB and other officials may differ.

Due to the political tension between India and Pakistan, the bilateral series between the two countries has been canceled several times.

When asked about the bilateral series between the two countries, India captain Rohit Sharma had said in August, “If I had the option to answer this question, I would have given it.” Respectable boards make these decisions. It is not in our hands. But if the boards decide to play, we will play.”
