Pallikaranai Marsh to get 16 sewage treatment plants: Shiva V. Mayyanathan

Sewage treatment plants will be set up at 16 points for clean water from major inlets in Pallikaranai marsh, Environment Minister Shiv V. Myanathan said here on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters after inspecting the swamp along with officials and South Chennai MP Thamizhachi Thangapandian, he said it would be done using CSR funds.

“Chief Minister MK Stalin has expressed his desire to see the marshes get clean water. At present, the oxygen level in the 640 hectare swamp is not up to the mark,” he said.

He said the marshy hyacinth would be removed at an estimated cost of Rs 78 lakh and CCTV cameras would be installed in the periphery to prevent trucks from emptying the sewage into the open space.

As far as the work of the Eco Park is concerned, Mr. Meyanathan said that the Chief Minister would soon inaugurate the facility.
